Ju­nior B Elks suf­fer home-ice loss to Colts

BROOK­FIELD, N.S. — The Brook­field Elks dropped a 6-5 de­ci­sion to the Cole Har­bour Colts on Tues­day in the Nova Sco­tia Ju­nior Hockey League.

It was the 18th loss in 19 games for the strug­gling Elks this sea­son.

Brady Meech fired home two goals for the Colts, while Keith Lead­bet­ter, Aaron Parks, Brent Dempsey and Alexan­der Hec­tor added sin­gle mark­ers. Con­nor Miller had two goals and an as­sist for the Elks, while Cae­lan Blaikie and Luke Barter each chipped in a goal and a helper. Ri­ley Scott had the other Brook­field goal and Evan Tay­lor had two as­sists.

The teams were tied 2-2 after the first pe­riod, while the Colts led 4-3 after 40 min­utes. Barter tied the game less than a minute into the third, how­ever, Meech snapped the stale­mate with 6:44 re­main­ing, fol­lowed by Hec­tor’s even­tual game win­ner 22 sec­onds later. Meech, of Truro, is tied for the league lead in goals with 22. Elks goal­tender Robert Forbes made 28 saves, while Zachary Ma­son of the Colts faced 36 shots. The Elks next ac­tion is Fri­day when they visit the Val­ley Maple Leafs. Their next home game is Tues­day, Dec. 11 against the Liver­pool Pri­va­teers at the sportsplex, be­gin­ning at 7:30 p.m.
