Junior B Elks suffer home-ice loss to Colts
BROOKFIELD, N.S. — The Brookfield Elks dropped a 6-5 decision to the Cole Harbour Colts on Tuesday in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.
It was the 18th loss in 19 games for the struggling Elks this season.
Brady Meech fired home two goals for the Colts, while Keith Leadbetter, Aaron Parks, Brent Dempsey and Alexander Hector added single markers. Connor Miller had two goals and an assist for the Elks, while Caelan Blaikie and Luke Barter each chipped in a goal and a helper. Riley Scott had the other Brookfield goal and Evan Taylor had two assists.
The teams were tied 2-2 after the first period, while the Colts led 4-3 after 40 minutes. Barter tied the game less than a minute into the third, however, Meech snapped the stalemate with 6:44 remaining, followed by Hector’s eventual game winner 22 seconds later. Meech, of Truro, is tied for the league lead in goals with 22. Elks goaltender Robert Forbes made 28 saves, while Zachary Mason of the Colts faced 36 shots. The Elks next action is Friday when they visit the Valley Maple Leafs. Their next home game is Tuesday, Dec. 11 against the Liverpool Privateers at the sportsplex, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
