Cougars en­joy strong run at Glace Bay tour­na­ment

TRURO, N.S. – The Cobe­quid Cougars placed sec­ond at the re­cent Pan­ther Clas­sic high school boys hockey tour­na­ment in Glace Bay. The Cougars lost 5-2 to the Riverview Red­men in the nal. Ry­lan Mcin­tyre and Ai­den Pitcher scored for CEC, while as­sists went to Cameron De­g­root, with two, and Cody Macdonald.

In the round-robin, CEC edged Glace Bay Pan­thers 3-2 in a shootout. Randy Mil­lea had the only goal in the shootout, while goal­tender Steven Jack­son stopped all ve Glace Bay shoot­ers he faced. De­g­root and Macdonald scored in reg­u­la­tion and as­sists went to McIn­tyer, Jeremy O’con­nell and Calum Macleod.

In game 2, Macleod, Macdonald and Bray­den Gray scored in a 3-0 win over Syd­ney Academy. Jack­son Haight, Pitcher and De­g­root had as­sists and Cody Pa­triquin earned the shutout.

In their third con­test, the Cougars edged the Red­men 3-2 on goals by Joe Fa­gi­oli, Kee­gan Grady and Gray with as­sists go­ing to Macdonald, De­g­root, Jack­son, Macleod and Zach Richards. Jack­son was the win­ning goalie.

In a semi nal matchup, CEC blanked the Dr. JH Gillis Roy­als 1-0 on a goal by Hay­den Kolke, as­sisted by Grady. Jack­son had the shutout.

The Cougars next ac­tion is tonight when they host the East Hants Pen­guins for a 6:30 p.m. start at the Colch­ester Le­gion Sta­dium.
