e incident occurred at approximately 6:20 p.m. and the initial investigation indicates the snowmobile struck a piece of land on the lake.

Visibility was poor due to snow and white-out conditions. e investigation is ongoing. Police have not released the name of the woman.

Justin Rushton, chief of the Westchester Fire Department, said it was a tough call to respond to.

“ e conditions were not the best and it was on the far side of the lake,” Rushton said.

“It’s such an unfortunate situation considering how old she was. It’s very sad.”

Sutherland’s Lake is very popular with snowmobilers and numerous camps are located around it.

The lake is near the top of Westchester Mountain and is not far from the Cobequid Pass toll plaza.
