New Horizons Band program starts new wave

Anyone age 50 or older is being offered the opportunit­y to make beautiful music.

The 19th Wave Cobequid New Horizons Band program begins Thursday, Jan. 10, with an instrument demonstrat­ion and experiment­ation session upstairs at the Colchester Legion Stadium at 4 p.m.

The program is for people who have never played before, as well as those who played in the past and are interested in taking it up again.

Instrument­s that will be taught include flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, alto saxo- phone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium (baritone), tuba, drums and percussion, violin, cello, piano, guitar and electric or acoustic bass. The program is run by Paul Barrett, a retired music teacher and profession­al musician.

The Cobequid New Horizons Band program began in September 2009 and starts groups of beginners twice a year.
