Cougars nab tournament crown
Faulkner stands tall in CEC net to earn most valuable player honours
e Cobequid Cougars high school girls hockey team recently captured the Peter Connell Memorial Tournament hosted by Central Kings.
e Cougars defeated West Kings 2-1 in the nal to win the championship banner.
Sarah Scammell nished o a nice passing play from Holly Masters to open the scoring in the rst minute of play in the nal. After West Kings tied it late in the rst period, Mykaela Sherry put the Cougars ahead midway through the third, assisted by Annika Masters.
As she had been during the entire tournament, Halle Faulkner was strong in goal and was named player of game.
To get to the nal, the Cougars defeated a strong Avon View team 2-1 in a shootout that lasted 11 rounds before Natalie Porter nally scored to put the CEC into the title game. In regulation, Sherry scored with assists going to Reagan Bouma and Shawndelle Fancy. Porter was named player of the game.
In the round-robin, the Cougars posted a 2-1 record. ey started with a 3-0 win over Middleton. Goals were scored by Scammell, Sherry and Porter with assists by Maddie Phillips (2) and Bouma. Phillips was player of the game.
Next was a strong 6-0 win over North East Kings. Goals were scored by Sherry (2), Phillips, Masters, Haley Spencer and Lauren Miller. Assists were collected by Bouma ( 3), Spencer, Jenna Maclean, Jordyn Mcnutt, Phillips, and Scammell. Sherry was player of the game.
Cobequid’s only loss was a 2-1 decision to West Kings. Spencer scored and was player of the game.
