Cobequid Educationa­l Centre announces award recipients

Two former Cobequid Educationa­l Centre students were presented with prestigiou­s medals while they were home for the holidays.

On Dec. 19, Kathryn Macquarrie was presented with the 2018 Governor General’s Medal and Joel Richards was given the Queen Elizabeth Medal.

The medals have previously been awarded during graduation ceremonies, but there is a directive stating they must be based on nal grades, and nal IB grades are not available until late summer.

The Governor General’s Medal, establishe­d in 1873, recognizes the student who has achieved the highest academic average based on their nal grade 11 and 12 marks. Kathryn Macquarrie scored 44 out of a possible 45 on her nal IB Exams, giving her an average of 98.8 per cent.

The Queen Elizabeth II Medal is awarded to the graduating student who has demonstrat­ed superior achievemen­t in studies during the last three years of school and has achieved an outstandin­g record in school and community involvemen­t.
