Lo­cal play­ers make Cen­tral Scout­ing’s QMJHL list

TRURO, N.S. – Ja­cob Me­lan­son, a for­mer mem­ber of the Truro Bearcats ma­jor ban­tam team, is ex­pected to be a high pick at the Que­bec Ma­jor Ju­nior Hockey League draft. Me­lan­son, who played for the Weeks Ma­jor Midgets in Pictou County last sea­son, is pro­jected to be taken in the se­cond round of the draft, which will be held June 8 in Que­bec City. Last week, QMJHL Cen­tral Scout­ing re­leased its fi­nal rank­ings for the draft. Me­lan­son, a for­ward from Amherst, was fifth in Nova Sco­tia Ma­jor Midget Hockey League scor­ing last sea­son with 20 goals and 21 as­sists for 41 points in 32 games. He was se­cond among all rook­ies in scor­ing be­hind Riley Kid­ney of Cole Har­bour, who had 19 goals and 28 as­sists for 47 points.

Four Colch­ester County play­ers also made Cen­tral Scout­ing’s fi­nal rank­ings list. Goal­tender Oliver Arn­fast (Val­ley), de­fence­man Tanner Greatorex (Truro) and for­ward Merle Put­nam (Masstown) are pro­jected sixth- to eighth-round picks, while for­ward Sam Archibald (De­bert) is pro­jected for rounds nine through 12.

All four lo­cal play­ers were mem­bers of the Weeks Ma­jor Midgets last sea­son.
