Mcisaac, Hig­gins chasing Me­mo­rial Cup cham­pi­onship

HAL­I­FAX, N. S. – Jared Mcisaac and Ben Hig­gins be­gin their quest for a na­tional ju­nior hockey ti­tle on Fri­day.

The Colch­ester County duo are mem­bers of the QMJHL’S Hal­i­fax Moose­heads, who meet the WHL cham­pion Prince Al­bert Raiders to­mor­row, May 17, in the open­ing game of the Me­mo­rial Cup at the Sco­tia­bank Cen­tre in Hal­i­fax. Puck drop is 8 p.m.

The Moose­heads en­ter the tour­na­ment af­ter los­ing the QMJHL fi­nal in six games to the RouynNo­randa Huskies. The Huskies be­gin their Me­mo­rial Cup tour­na­ment on Satur­day against the OHL cham­pion Guelph Storm, be­gin­ning at 4:30 p.m.

On Sun­day, Hal­i­fax faces Guelph be­fore fin­ish­ing the round-robin on Wed­nes­day against Rouyn-no­randa. Both of those games be­gin at 8 p.m. The semi­fi­nal is slated for Fri­day, May 24 (8 p.m.) and the fi­nal will be played on Sun­day, May 26 (8 p.m.)

Mcisaac, a de­fence­man from Truro, scored 16 goals and added 46 as­sists for 62 points in 53 reg­u­lar-sea­son games for the Moose­heads in 2018-2019. The se­cond-round pick (36th over­all) of the Detroit Red Wings at last June’s draft added 16 play­off points in 22 games on two goals and 14 as­sists.

Hig­gins, a for­ward from Bi­ble Hill, played a check­ing role for the Moose­heads, and chipped in nine goals and 19 as­sists in 65 games dur­ing the reg­u­lar sea­son.
