Truro Lions Club cancels booking for National Citizens Alliance

TRURO, N. S. – A meeting of the National Citizens Alliance (NCA) that had been planned for June 7 at the Truro & District Lions Club has been cancelled.

Rob Shank, who is responsible for booking events at the club, said he decided to cancel the booking after receiving numerous phone calls from people concerned about the group’s reputation as an advocate for white supremacy.

Shank said the club is open to all individuals and groups and does not associate with the policies or politics of anyone who books an event. He added that when he agreed to book the NCA’S event, he could not find any information that indicates any actual connection with racial issues or white supremacy activities.

And while such bookings serve as an important part of fundraising for the Lions Club, Shank said the public outcry and negative response were not worth having the event held there.

A similar booking for June 5 at the Lions Club in Sydney was also cancelled because of public sentiment.
