Heritage awards being presented Thursday evening
TRURO, N.S. – Heritage Night celebrations are being held Thursday evening, Feb. 20, and everyone is welcome to attend.
The Colchester Historical Society will present heritage awards, at the Colchester Historeum, beginning at 7 p.m.
Award recipients include authors Stacey Culgin, for her book “An Historical Sketch of Belmont and Area”; Bob Taylor, for his book “Municipal Awareness: An Insider View”; and Dr. Margot Roach and Ian Glass for their book, “A Chronicle of the Roach Family,” an exploration of life in Tatamagouche and the medical practices there of generations of the family.
Allan C. Bonnyman will be recognized for his volunteer work with Creamery Square Museum and North Shore Archives, and Michael Boulton will be honoured for his efforts at the Colchester Historeum.
The Earltown Community Centre Society, nominated by the County of Colchester, will be presented with an award for the preservation and reuse of the community schoolhouse, which was built in 1865 and is now in use as a community centre.
The Town of Truro will present the Robert Hilchey Memorial Heritage Award to the restoration project by U-haul at 34 Court St. in Truro.
