CEC teams win re­gional ti­tles

Cougars boys and girls to com­pete next week­end at pro­vin­cial tour­na­ments

TRURO, N.S. – Cobe­quid Ed­u­ca­tional Cen­tre teams have earned berths at Nova Sco­tia School Ath­letic Fed­er­a­tion Di­vi­sion 1 bas­ket­ball cham­pi­onships.

The CEC girls team cap­tured the Northum­ber­land re­gion ti­tle on Feb. 20 af­ter a 64-57 vic­tory over the North Nova Gryphons to book at a spot at the pro­vin­cial tour­na­ment March

6 to 8 in the Western re­gion.

Mean­while, the CEC boys de­feated Dr. J.H. Gil­lis 8264 in the re­gional fi­nal to ad­vance to provin­cials in the Cap­i­tal re­gion, also March 6 to 8.

In re­gional girls semi­fi­nal ac­tion, the Cougars thumped Northum­ber­land Nighthawks 101-12, while the lo­cal boys came away with an 82-51 vic­tory over Northum­ber­land in their semi­fi­nal.
