Eagles soar to junior hoops title
TRURO – The Redcliff Eagles posted a 4- 0 record to capture the Raptors Invitational junior boys basketball tournament at West Pictou Consolidated School.
The Eagles soared to a 52- 38 victory over the host Raptors in the final. Redcliff withstood an early onslaught and led by five at the half. The Eagles raised the tempo in the second half and pulled away in the fourth quarter.
Tyree Desmond led the way with 14 points, while player of the game Ryan Rankin added 11 and Koady Ross had nine.
Redcliff opened the tournament with a 52- 31 win over West Pictou. Desmond threw down 14 points, Braden Gray had eight and Daniel Loughead six. Riley Masters was player of the game.
In an 80- 18 whitewash of Walter Duggan, Loughead drained 18, while Desmond and Masters had 16 each. Thomas Poirier was player of the game.
In their other contest, the Eagles blew out Antigonish 66- 10.
Desmond led the charge with 18 points, while Rankin added 12 and player of the game Darsey Pratt chipped in 10.
