Community centre track fees dropped

TRURO – Advertised walking/ jogging track membership fees at the Rath EastLink Community Centre ( RECC) have been lifted and the track will be available to all users at no charge when it opens on March 3 at noon.

Although there is no fee, a donation box will be set up with all proceeds going back into RECC operations for such things as future facility improvements.

The advertised annual fees had been set at $ 199 for adults, $ 149 for seniors and students/ youths, and $ 399 for a family a four.

The decision to drop them resulted after consultations between the Town of Truro, County of Colchester and the RECC operating board.

“A goal since the early planning phases of the project was to ensure that the centre is accessible and available to the community,” said Colchester County Mayor Bob Taylor in a news release. “We are thrilled to deliver the news that the track will be available at no charge and look forward to seeing it in use.”

The track, located at the top of the seating bowl in the arena, measures 250 metres, making four trips around one kilometre. The arena section of the RECC will open with the first Truro Bearcats junior A hockey game on March 2. However, given the anticipated crowd, RECC management decided to open the track to the public the next day.
