Rhinos fall to Attack in junior C final

TRURO – The Fundy MU Rhino Renovation­s Rhinos had their season come to an end Saturday. The Rhinos dropped a 6- 3 decision to the Spryfield Silver and Black Attack in Game 5 of the Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League final. The Attack won the best- of- seven series 4- 1. The Rhinos lost 4- 2 on Friday night at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre and entered Saturday’s tilt in Spryfield with their backs against the wall. The Attack jumped out to a 2- 0 lead. The Rhinos stormed back for a 3- 2 edge early in the third period, however, penalties ultimately cost the visitors, as Spryfield scored four times in the final frame – three on the power play – to win the title on home ice. Dalton Turner scored twice for the Rhinos, while Devin Vanderkooi added a single marker. Justin Mabe led the Attack with a hat trick, while Cameron DeGooyer chipped in a pair and Tyler Cameron notched a single tally. Spryfield outshot Fundy 43- 16. The Rhinos amassed 65 penalty minutes in the contest, compared to just eight minutes for the Attack. On Friday, Spryfield led 3- 0 near the midway point of the second period, before Brennen Hartling and Turner made it a one- goal game after 40 minutes. The Rhinos had some quality chances to score in the third, however, they were unable beat goaltender Alex Mader. Mabe, with his second of the game, iced it with 3: 39 remaining. Cameron and Curtis LeBlanc scored other goals for the Attack.
