About Art

My painting Something Crow About sold on Sunday.

It was up for auction on the ArtBomb website just for that day and ArtBomb subscribers were informed about it via email. It is now on its way to a new owner in Ontario, to someone who may never have seen it, if not for ArtBomb.

These days, millions of works of art are for sale online, with many of them at online auctions. Artbombdaily.com is a successful way for artists to market and sell their work to thousands of potential buyers right across Canada, expanding the marketplace and opportunities. ArtBomb handles each work of art with professionalism. The experience and qualifications of those behind ArtBomb, such as Carrie Shibinsky who worked for 20 years at the Art Gallery of Ontario, instill confidence in both the artists and collectors.

to Janice Guinan’s Something to Crow About sold on an online art auction on Sunday to a bidder from Ontario. This was the second piece of art Guinan has sold on the site, which has selected three more pieces of her works.

If you are an artist or an art patron wanting more information, contact the East Coast Curator, Vanessa Lentz, by email at lentzbellaliant.net, phone 902757-2808 or check out the website. Selling art online provides convenience and opportunities with popularity growing exponentially.

I realize online shopping may not appeal to everyone, and some prefer to attend art auctions in person.

Many of the same factors are necessary in achieving a successful auction for all involved whether online or in person.

The second annual art auction at Winding River Art Gallery, Mastodon Ridge, in Stewiacke, is coming up this Sunday. You can view some of the available artwork online at http://windingriverartgallery.com and on Facebook or drop by the gallery this week while the Auction Exhibition is on.

Winding River is happy with the high quality of submissions from many talented local and renowned artists, both members and non-members. The live auction will include more than 60 pieces of art with more than 75 additional pieces up for silent auction. Buyers will have an opportunity to bid on original paintings, photographs, and reproductions of all sizes, original glass pieces, hand made jewelry, ceramics, fibre art, wood sculpture, books and more. This annual art auction supports local artists by providing a professional venue to sell and exhibit their art. It is also a way for the gallery to gain exposure and an opportunity to engage more artists.

The live auction will be held at the gallery Nov. 1 with viewing from 1 to 2 p.m., and the live auction commencing at 2 p.m. It should be a lively event as the auctioneer, David Watters, has a keen sense of humour and is very knowledgeable about art.

Get to the gallery early, ask questions and talk to the artists about artwork that interests you and enjoy a pleasant afternoon filled with opportunities.
