Colchester County is a hotbed for unexplaine­d sounds and sights

“Some of the pictures we took had ‘orbs’ in them but I just consider that to be dust and particles in the air,” she said.

Their tape recorder provided some interestin­g “replies.”

“There were noises that sounded like a train whistle. We thought we heard a voice say ‘Get out of here!’ and we also thought we heard a little girl’s voice say ‘Please help me!’”

Phelan Porteous and a friend were out on their bicycles one night when they heard music in the distance.

“Every time we stopped it got louder until we moved again,” he said. “It was late and we didn’t know how it wasn’t waking people up. Eventually it faded away. I still don’t have a good explanatio­n of what that noise could have been or why it sounded like it was following us and emitting from different areas.”

His sister, Kyna, saw something in the same area. She woke up at night more than once and looked down the hallway to see what looked like a man in the wooden rocker by the window. He never moved but it looked like he was holding the end of a rifle, which was resting on the floor, by one hand.

She also heard a voice calling her name once when she was alone in the house and doors would open when no one was near them.

When Kyna was in her late teens she was standing outside her home talking with a friend and having a smoke one evening when she saw a figure come around the side of the house.

“I said ‘Hello!’ but they didn’t answer,” she recalled. “I looked away and back again and there was no one there. The person who was with me never saw anyone.”

She went inside and told her brother and mother, who went outside with flashlight­s. Because there was snow they were able to see footprints that started in the middle of the backyard and ended at the corner of the house. It was as it the person had materializ­ed from nowhere and then disappeare­d.
