Let’s get artsy-fartsy

Artistic festival being held on Inglis Place

- By Lynn Curwin

Arts, crafts, music and chili will be in abundant supply on Inglis Place as the community’s first Artsy-Fartsy Festival takes place Aug. 6 and 7.

“The idea behind this was to celebrate artists and artisans, and to allow them to display and sell their work,” said Sam Madore, special events and culture coordinator for Truro.

There will be buskers and live music, with the George Carter Trio performing Saturday evening. Visitors will also be able to watch Bruce Loomer do wood carving.

“The fartsy side of it is the chili cook-off,” said Madore. “There will be seven chilis and people can pay to sample them. Any money raised will go to the Cobequid Arts Council.”

Kids Paint Live will be offered in front of Enchanted Forest on Sunday, Aug. 7 from 10-10:30 a.m. and 1-1:30 p.m. Cost is $10 per canvas, with all materials included. Jen Erdman will be leading these events and no prior registration is required.

For teens and adults she is offering Paint and Create Live on Saturday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The cost is $20 and pre-registration, which can be done through Enchanted Forest, is required.

The Li’l Farts Art Show and silent auction, raising money for the Colchester Food Bank, will be at Clay Café, where Mini Musicians will also provide music. It is for children up to age 15. Art can be dropped off at the Clay Café, 49 Inglis Place, any day between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., until Aug. 4. Those who donate art will receive a 15-per-cent off Clay Café coupon.

The festival will run 6-9 p.m. on Aug. 6 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Aug. 7. Anyone interested in being involved can contact Sam Madore at smadore@truro.ca .

If any changes need to be made due to weather, information will be posted on the ArtsyFartsy Facebook page.
