Many happy times spent in Truro

- Ken Jardine, Highland Highwaymen Cowboy Mounted Shooters, Little Bras D’or, Cape Breton

Howdy friends in Truro My wife and I have been attending and (with our horses) competing at the NS Provincial Exhibition for decades. I feel a connection to Truro as I spent many happy times there in my youth visiting my cousins the MacMillans and as a contracted advertising salesperson for this paper back in the ’70s.

Because of my affection for the town and the exhibition grounds I’d like to urge you folks not to come to this years exhibition this week – but I should clarify don’t come ALONE. Call your friends, relatives, co-worker’s and neighbours, the ones you have a barbecue with once a month or go to the movies or beach with and make it an exhibition outing instead. You’ll have a great time!

The facility is at a crossroads and needs maximum public support this year. In the past, I’ve seen the horse track here in Sydney Cape Breton close and other public venues deteriorate around the Maritimes over the past few years and after such closures there is always a public outcry.

I’ve also seen facilities like the Lawrence Town Exhibition grounds beginning a renewal and rebuilding process. It’s all dependent on our support. And while you are at it, give your local councilor, MLA and MP a call and urge them to up their support for one of Truro’s biggest attractions.

Truro’s EX has a great midway, displays and top level horse competitions. My friends and I will giving a Cowboy Mounted Shooting Demo on the weekend which is something new and exciting.

You’ll have fun and be supporting a valuable asset to your community.

Hope we see you there.
