Vince Roberts eyes return to municipal politics
Former deputy-mayor Vince Roberts has decided to run for Truro town council again.
Roberts, a life-long resident of Truro, is running in Ward 2 and says his campaign will concentrate on building openness, transparency and accountability.
“I love my hometown and I’m passionate about what’s possible for Truro,” he said. “I have a proven track record in the private and public sectors as well as non-governmental organizations to bring a renewed municipal experience and business knowledge of prudent spending practices by government at all levels.”
He previously served on council for nine years and has experience working with City of Saint John administration. He and his wife Patricia have also operated the Mount Pleasant Nursery School for 39 years.
While attending St. Mary’s University he was involved in implementing the Centre of Excellence, which works on strategies to drive economic growth, at the Sobeys School of Business.
He believes community partnerships and collaborations need to be encouraged and supported in both voluntary organizations and private enterprises.
“Our public infrastructure spending has experienced an unprecedented period of modernization that will require additional tax revenue sources, such as the sewer tax that is in addition to our property assessment taxes,” he said, “Consequently, there is a necessity for prudent fiscal management of the ongoing operational deficits from these new capital infrastructure projects.”
He said it is important to discuss, as a community, how everyone can work together for mutual benefit.
He and his wife Patricia have three children and seven grandchildren.
