Standings tighten
At the end of the day, it’s how you finish the game that matters most.
The Truro Bearcats played three games last week. In all, the team scoring first came out on the short end of the final verdict.
All three games were decided in the final frame. So much for great starts.
In Valley, the Bearcats fell behind early, rallied and played even until the third when they took over.
It was almost a repeat performance two nights later in Bridgewater. It seems those teams below you won’t go away.
It’s great to see that teams far removed from playoff opportunity make you earn your points. Obviously they play for different reasons.
Saturday, the Bearcats took a two-goal lead against a very strong Miramichi squad. Unfortunately, all the game’s other goals came off Timberwolf sticks.
Miramichi is big, fast and experienced. The MHL’s secondmost penalized team, when playing disciplined, can be tough to handle.
The Eastlink South Division Standings were reshuffled slightly but remain very close. Every game has meaning and consequence.
Competitiveness is increasing. From a distance, it’s interesting to see Yarmouth go into Amherst and defeat the Ramblers. The next night Amherst goes to New Glasgow and defeats the Crushers.
There are no free points in a race where all positions are still mathematically available.
The Bearcats have two games slated for this weekend. None is larger than Friday’s, at the RECC, against the Amherst Ramblers.
Truro has yet to take any points from the Ramblers, who sit just two behind Truro coming into this week. The gap between the two will be widened or closed.
Saturday, again at the RECC, Truro faces the Summerside Capitals, the other division’s third place team.
Truro has defeated the Capitals twice this year. Both need the points badly so it, too, should be a battle.
Monday, the Bearcats are off to Amherst for a 2:00 pm game with the Ramblers. This will be the final regular-season meeting of the two clubs, again with plenty at stake.
The final leg of the 2016-2017 schedule should be a dandy.
