New exhibit opens in Tatamagouche
The Fraser Cultural Centre and Northumberland Arts Council exhibit “Art 5” can now be seen at the Fraser Cultural Centre in Tatamagouche.
Media include painting, drawing, photography, welded steel, and stone, with work by Carolyn Bedford, Irene Boudreau, Leslie Morin, Christene Sandeson and Todd Vassallo.
Carolyn Ritchie Bedford’s “Crossings” collection of acrylics and sculptures pays homage to those who travel toward the unknown and the vessels that carry them. Her paintings illustrate large ships and smaller crafts.
Irene Boudreau derived her “In5 2” (In 5 squared) concept from the Art 5 title, with the idea the viewer look within their own five-square-kilometre area to experience the details of life. Her works includes photos of birds, and are a glimpse into the complexities of life’s moments.
Leslie Morin’s untitled collection draws attention to her choice of Prismacolor as a medium not often displayed in galleries. Everyday objects and figures from daily life are rendered in crisp detail.
Christene Sandeson’s “Primordial Dawn” paintings and carvings suggest the “dawn of life.” Some of her work is inspired from fossilized ammonite and nautilus shells.
Todd Vassallo creates large, contemporary forms by bending and weaving metal, using patterns in the metals to emphasize light.
The exhibit can be seen at the Fraser Cultural Centre until July 26.
