The Colchester Historeum is getting the house in order

Staff and volunteers at the Colchester Historeum are excited about what’s taking place in the building.

A Re-org storage organization system has made it easier to store and find items, and several popular events have been held recently.

“We’re really excited about the work done in the basement,” said curator Margaret Mulrooney. “We had an intern for five months who reorganized and photographed the artifacts in the basement and a summer intern will finish inventory on the third floor. That’s a big help for us when planning exhibits because we can go to the database instead of handling items.”

Much of the historeum’s collection can now be viewed online at www.novamuse.ca .

A recent provincial evaluation of 67 community museums ranked the Colchester Historeum fifth.

A large number of people take in activities that are provided and presentations have been well attended. A recent exhibit

told how Truro was the first to send help to Halifax following

the explosion. A few Grade 11 Cobequid Educational Centre

students have recently been working with the museum to create a pop-up exhibit on “Truro – then and now.”

A spring book sale raised $1,652 for the historeum and a fall sale is

now being considered.

“We got a lot of new volunteers during the past year, which is great,” said Mulrooney. “We have about 60 active volunteers now and that makes things run much smoother.”
