Noted theatre, television and film acting talent R.H. Thomson will be conducting a Master Class in Parrsboro for seasoned and aspiring actors.

R.H. Thomson will be conducting a Master Class in theatre in Parrsboro this summer and some people are very excited about it.

“I’m going to take the class,” said Robert More, executive director of Parrsboro Creative. “This really is an amazing opportunity. R.H. Thomson is not only one of the best actors in the country, he is also one of the best teachers. He has years of experience working with actors, and truly knows how to maximize the strengths of every individual.”

Thomson, one of Canada’s leading actors in film, television and on stage, will lead a two-day course Aug. 26-27.

Each day of the workshop will include specific exercises and activities designed to help participants

connect to the truth of their work and gain confidence through a better understanding of themselves.

“How can we tell stories on stage that have the same power as the unforgettable stories in our own lives?” Thomson is quoted as saying in a release. “Bring your stories and your monologues and we will find their common ground. Acting isn’t pretending, it’s storytelling without fear. This

course is for the fearless.”

The 69-year-old directed at Ship’s Company Theatre in the past and quickly responded when contacted about a Master Class in the area.

“He has a way of making theatre accessible and he really is good at helping people plug in to themselves,” said More. “He has an incredible awareness and inclusiveness of people.”

Thomson has performed in many films and TV shows including “Road to Avonlea,” “Anne,” “Charlie Grant’s War,” “Republic of Doyle,” “Trudeau” and “The Piano Man’s Daughter,” as well as on stage. More has seen him on stage a few times and has always been impressed.

He has received a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement and is a member of the Order of Canada.

A maximum of 15 people will be able to take the Master Class. For more information, and to register, visit parrsborocreative.com.
