PYE, Shirley F. - 86, Bible Hill, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in North River, she was a daughter of the late James and Georgina (MacLean) Staples. At age 13, Shirley began working at Lewis Hat Factory and after her marriage at age 23, she worked as a cook in various woods camps, including Sunnybrae. She enjoyed quilting, cross stitch and knitting and her family and friends will forever cherish the items she made for them. Above all, Shirley took great pride in raising her family, spending time with her grandchild­ren and making her home a welcome place to be. Shirley is survived by her sons, Riley (Debbie), Quispamsis, New Brunswick; Gerald (Amanda Levy-Pye), Yarmouth; grandchild­ren, Jason Pye, Waterloo, Ontario; Josh Pye, Halifax; Michael Pye, Quispamsis; Robyn Levy-Pye and Neil Levy-Pye, Yarmouth; brother, Andy Staples, Onslow Mountain; several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predecease­d by her husband, C. Russell Pye; sisters, Leona Staples, Iola (Duncan) Marshall, Jean (Jim) Ripley; brothers, Louis (Shirley) Staples; Danny Staples. Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Shirley’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, August 9, 2017, and funeral service 3 p.m., Thursday, August 10, 2017, Reverend Valerie Kingsbury officiatin­g. Reception will follow. Interment will be held in Bible Hill Cemetery, Warren Drive, Bible Hill. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Shirley’s memory to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Canada or Kidney Foundation of Canada are welcomed.
