Scotia Pool one of four projects in bidding for $250,000; voting starts Thursday at noon

When Glenda Bower heard Scotia Pool was a finalist in the Kraft Heinz Project Play contest she was bubbling with excitement.

She’s now busy trying to ensure the Bible Hill pool gets as many online votes as possible, in order to win the $250,000 grand prize.

“We didn’t know we were a finalist until it was announced on TSN last night,” Bower said Tuesday. She is chair of the board of directors for the Scotia Pool Society. “When we heard, it was excitement-plus and it was like a firestorm. Even people who aren’t on our committee were calling and sending texts. It was midnight before things settled down.”

The society was contacted about 10 days ago and told they were potential finalists, and that a crew would be coming to talk to people and do some filming.

“I equated it to being in the semi finals,” said Bower. “Now that we’re a finalist, as long as we follow the rules, we get $20,000. That’s a big help. If we win it’s a game changer.”

Bower wrote the essays for the pool to enter the contest after another board member messaged her about it. Other members took photos and everything was sent in; then it was a wait while judges looked over 1,195 entries.

“This is something very near and dear to my heart so it’s very easy for me to write passionately about it, and I thought there was nothing lost by trying,” she said. “It’s a big thing for a little place like Bible Hill to be a finalist and now we need to get as many people voting as possible.”

She is asking that people spread the word online and while talking to others.

Scotia Pool hopes to win the money in order to replace roofing, windows and a level walking, and replace damaged and missing bricks.

Voting will begin Sept. 8 at noon and continues until midnight on Sept. 9 at http://kraftheinzprojectplay.com/en/
