Choirs gathering in Upper Onslow for concert to fight hunger

Choir members from several local United Churches are coming together to sing, celebrate, and raise funds to help put an end to global hunger.

“We’re excited about coming together as a community for an evening of great music and to support a great cause,” said Heather MacLeod, choir director at Trinity United, and one of the concert organizers. “We’d like to invite members of the community to come out to our concert and join us in celebrating God’s good earth and the food it provides.”

Funds raised will help the Canadian Foodgrains Bank respond to hunger emergencies around the world.

The concert is one of about 70 Common Vision concerts being held across Canada.

“We’re thrilled to be putting on the concert the day before World Food Day,” said MacLeod. “There are lots of ways to support people around the world who do not get enough to eat – performing music is one of them.

“The concerts are a way to showcase the beauty of music, and also to help others. It’s going to be a great experience.”

Taking part in the event are choirs from Trinity United (Onslow), St. David’s United (Bible Hill) and St. Andrew’s United (Truro).

The concert will be held Sunday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. at Trinity United Church, at the corner of 415 Onslow Rd and Meetinghouse Rd., in Upper Onslow.

Refreshments and fellowship will follow.

Donations made at the event are eligible for a matching contribution from the Government of Canada, through the partnership between the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and Global Affairs Canada.

Canadian Foodgrains Bank is a partnership of 15 churches and church agencies working together to end global hunger. During the 2015-16 budget year, the bank provided more than $43 million of assistance to more than a million people in 40 countries.
