Clayton Park death a homicide, police say

- By ian FairclouGh The ChroniCle herald

Halifax Regional Police say the death of a 20-year-old Halifax man almost two weeks ago has been ruled a homicide.

Sardar Ajmeer Nawabi was found in need of immediate medical assistance after police were called to an apartment building at 36 Montgomery Ct. in Clayton Park shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 17. Paramedics took him to hospital, where he later died.

Const. Dianne Penfound said that after the initial autopsy more testing was needed to determine the cause of death, but she wouldn’t say what that was, or whether Nawabi suffered any obvious signs of trauma.

A neighbour told The Chronicle Herald the day after the death he heard police use the phrase “multiple stab wounds” at the scene.

On the morning of the death, police took a 27-year-old man and 24-year-old woman from the scene for questioning. They were placed under arrest at 6:20 that morning, but released without charges more than 13 hours later.

Those same two people, both Halifax residents, along with a 52-year-old Ontario woman, went to police headquarters Thursday afternoon to be questioned. They were released without charges.

Penfound said all three people and Nawabi were known to one another. She said the death is not considered a random act, and police aren’t looking for any more persons of interest.
