They came in all shapes, sizes and breeds as the Cobequid Dog Club show featured some of the most loveable canines you’ll see anywhere.

BIBLE HILL, NS

Saturday was a big day for Spencer, but he wasn’t quite aware of how big it was.

Spencer, whose full name is Keysmark’s Spencer Tracy, is a 16-month-old Keeshond, who earned his championship at the Cobequid Dog Club show on the weekend.

Seeing him become a champion was a rewarding experience for his breeder, Marsha Kaczmarek, of Belmont.

“This is the first time we’ve had three of the same line in the ring together so it was pretty exciting,” she said.

She grew up with Keeshonds and has six, as well as a rescued beagle, at home.

“They’re awesome all-around dogs,” she said. “They’re great companions, can do agility and obedience; they’re multi talented. More of my dogs go to companion homes than show homes.”

Keeshonds are considered a rare breed and people as far away as B.C. and Arizona have purchased dogs from Kaczmarek.

Mike Goddard, who lives in PEI, owns Spencer.

“The camaraderie is a big part of showing dogs,” he said. “It keeps me busy now that

I’m retired and I meet a lot of people. We’ll be working on his grand championship now.”

He also plans to get the dog involved in rally obedience next year.
