Irma Jean Pryor

-

PRYOR, Irma Jean – 83, North River, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late William and Alice (Lockhart) Robertson.

Irma had many interests and in earlier years she kept active with skating, bowling, curling and going for walks. She was a life-member of the Ladies Auxiliary and served as Past President and in many other capacities; Legion work was an important part of her life and she was part of the colour party, sold poppies, sang with “The Legion Lyrics”, played 45s and bingo.

Irma enjoyed travelling, whether it was to Pictou waterfront or more lengthy trips, such as her 1994 trip to England, France, Germany and Switzerland with her husband, Harry, and fellow Legion members.

An avid family woman, she enjoyed time spent with her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She worked for Truro Print, however, after getting married, she was perfectly content to stay at home and take in boarders so she could sell Fuller Brush and Avon door-to-door.

She was extremely proud to be a “Robertson” and would often tell stories of her connection to Robertson’s Candy and her times spent working in the shop with her family; working in the candy business might help explain her extremely sweet “teeth” because she always had a stash of chocolate in her fridge and would make special trips to the store to replenish her stock! Her last chocolate run was last Tuesday.

Irma is survived by her daughter, Beth (Craig) Spinney, Salmon River; son, Bill (Bonnie) MacMillan, Moncton, N.B.; grandchildren, Alissa Spinney, Salmon River; Carlyn MacMillan, Duncan, B.C.; Shelby MacMillan, Liam MacMillan, Moncton, N.B.; great-grandchildren, Paisley, Brixlee, Lukas; brothers, Owen Robertson, Costa Rica; Darrell Robertson, Hilden; Roy (Gladys) Robertson, Truro; several nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harry; daughter, Kimberlea Ann “Kim” McCully; Kim and Beth’s father, Don McCully; sister, Mary Robertson; brothers, George Robertson, Douglas Robertson, Ronald Robertson; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Robertson, Donna Robertson, and Margaret Robertson.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, where Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a tribute service at 3:15 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, followed by the funeral service at 4 p.m., Reverend Sarah Clapham officiating. Reception will follow.

Private interment in Brookfield Eastside Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Irma’s memory to a charity of choice are welcomed. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Irma’s obituary on-line and selecting “Send A Condolence” at www.mattatallvarnerfh.com.
