Bearcats coast to win over Ramblers
The Truro Bearcats put on a formidable offensive display and Kevin Resop turned aside 29 of 30 shots Friday as the Bearcats defeated the visiting Amherst Ramblers 5-1 at the RECC.
It was an important two points for Truro (10-7-0-0) as it now trails the third-place Ramblers (9-4-2-2) by just two points in the Maritime Junior Hockey League’s Eastlink South Division. Pictou County Weeks Crushers (7-10-1-0) are five points back of Truro. South Shore Lumberjacks (15-4-0-0) lead the division with 30 points, followed by the second-place Yarmouth Mariners (13-4-0-0).
Friday, the Bearcats scored twice on the powerplay, the first coming from Tyler Pyke, scarcely five minutes into the opening frame.
Truro scored three unanswered goals in the second to open up a 4-0 lead, with Karter Renouf tallying with the man advantage, followed by a pair of goals by Noah Archibald.
The teams exchanged goals in the third, with Caleb Rich scoring Amherst’s only goal at 12:43. The Bearcats replied just 13 seconds later when Campbell Pickard beat netminder Julian Galloway, who also faced 30 shots.
Pyke finished the game with a pair of assists to go with his goal, while Pickard added a helper for a two-point night.
It’s a busy weekend ahead for the Bearcats, with three games in as many days.
