Avoid any additional charges for changing currency, using a U.S. ATM or using your Canadian credit card, which probably has a hefty fee for each out-of-country purchase. You could always take cash, but maybe consider a U.S. currency account.

If you travel to the States on a regular basis, I think it makes sense to sign up for an account.
