Willard Fletcher Spencer

SPENCER, Willard Fletcher – 89, Portaupiqu­e, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday morning, Nov. 15, 2017, at home.

Born in East Portaupiqu­e, he was a son of the late Minor and Laura (Chisholm) Spencer.

Willard was a woodsman for many years before going to work at a gold mill in Quebec. He later worked with Davison’s Transport in Portaupiqu­e and was finally employed with Dominion Chair Factory in Bass River as a truck driver for 39 years.

Willard was the last surviving member of his immediate family and is survived by his daughter, Rose (Leon) Moore, Truro; son, Aubrey Spencer, Fernie, British Columbia; grandchild­ren, Tammy Moore (Terry Higgins), Tracy Moore, Truro; Amanda (Aaron) Smolana and Charles (Crystal) Spencer, British Columbia; great-grandchild­ren, Jordan, Sheridan, Sarah, Damien, Ashlyn, Payton, Shayden, Rylen; sister-in-law, Coryl Spencer, Bass River; brother-in-law, Lyndon (Annette) Mclellan, Bass River; several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was predecease­d by his wife, Beulah Iona (Mclellan) Spencer; sisters, Verna Sutherland, Bernice Rushton, Pearl Rushton; brothers, Arnold Spencer, Norman Spencer, Roderick Spencer. \

Willard’s family would like to express their deep appreciati­on and thanks to his special friend and caregiver, Evelyn Sutherland, for her care and devotion. As well, we wish to acknowledg­e Dr. Michael Murray, Palliative Care Team and VON.

Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Willard’s family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, and funeral service 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017, Reverend George Irving Luke, II officiatin­g. Interment in Mahon Cemetery, Great Village.

If so desired, donations in Willard’s memory to IWK (Cystic Fibrosis Clinic) or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia are welcomed.
