Province issues third tender for Dartmouth hospital work
The province has put out another tender for expansion and renovation work at the Dartmouth General Hospital.
The work is part of the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre redevelopment project.
This is the third tender for construction services at the hospital for interior work on a new addition and renovations within the existing hospital.
The work will add space for 48 beds on the fifth floor and eight new operating rooms to replace four existing operating rooms. Outpatient care areas and diagnostic imaging areas will also be expanded.
The work includes: demolition and hazardous materials remedi- ation; structural modifications; interior partitions; door frames and hardware; ceilings, flooring, wall finishes; millwork; mechanical and electrical rough-in and fit-out; fire protection and building automation systems.
Along with the expansion and renovations at Dartmouth General, the QEII Health Centre project includes improvements to the Halifax Infirmary site and Hants Community Hospital. The work will allow the eventual closure of the aging Centennial and Victoria buildings at the Victoria General site.
The buildings on South Park Street have been plagued by floods, heating issues and an infestation of bedbugs. The province plans to take them out of service in 2020 and demolish them beginning in 2022.
