New CEO books in with lots of enthusiasm
When Tiffany Bartlett first saw the library in Truro she was impressed, to say the least.
So being hired as CEO of the Colchester- East Hants Public Library system came as quite a thrill.
“When I saw the job posting I visited the area, and when I saw the library it was love at first sight,” she said. “I was impressed with the downtown core. This is the kind of dream job I’d been working toward.”
Bartlett grew up in St. Andrews, N. B., borrowing books from nearby libraries. It wasn’t until she worked as a student assistant at Mount Allison University’s library that she decided a career in the field would suit her. She went on to get her Masters in Information and Library Studies from Dalhousie University.
The next few years, she worked with the New Brunswick Public Library Service as a reference librarian and technical services librarian, and served as director of the Kennebecasis library, acting assistant regional director for the Fundy Region and head of adult services.
She took over her new position with the Colchester-east Hants libraries on Feb. 5 and has been busy, becoming accustomed to her new home in Truro and learn- ing about the branches and communities.
“I’ve visited all five branches and now I want to get to know the outlying communities,” she said. “The staff have been very open and welcoming, and my immediate priority is to get to know them. They have wonderful ideas and insights. I’m also looking forward to meeting the board.”
She said she enjoys the pace in modern libraries, and the fact that no two days are the same.
In her spare time Bartlett enjoys … reading, naturally.
“I read a bit of everything,” she said. “I like murder mysteries, biographies and some teen fiction, but I also read other things. I like to spend time at the circulation desk and see what others are reading.”
She also goes out walking to explore the area, and spends time with her cats, Darcy and Bingley – named for characters in Pride and Prejudice.
