WINNING WAYS

-

Bearcats put two more in the “W” column as regular schedule winds down.

Karter Renouf scored at 2:05 of overtime to lift the Truro Bearcats to a 4-3 victory over the Woodstock Slammers in Maritime Hockey League action Friday.

It was the first of a pair of contests in a New Brunswick swing for the Bearcats, as they went on Saturday to blank St. Stephen Aces 4-0, with Kevin Resop posting the shutout.

The games serve as tuneups for the playoffs as the Bearcats, with three games remaining in the regular schedule, are destined for an opening round matchup against the Yarmouth Mariners. Yet to be determined is who will be second and third in the Eastlink South Division, with South Shore Lumberjacks just two back of the Amherst Ramblers. Both have three games remaining.

Truro, six points back of the Lumberjacks, could theoretically match South Shore’s points total. But that appears unlikely with two of the Lumberjacks’ remain- ing games against the division’s last-place Valley Wildcats.

Friday in Woodstock, Campbell Pickard scored once and added three assists for a four- point night. Aside from Renouf’s gamewinner, Truro scorers were Dylan Burton and Alex Macdonald as the Bearcats outshot the Slammers 34-26.

Saturday in St. Stephen, Resop turned aside 18 shots for the shutout, while his team mates pelted the Aces’ net with 48 shots at the other end.

After a scoreless first, the Bear- cats went ahead in the second with three goals, by Elliott McGuire, Renouf and Cameron MacLeod. Pickard rounded out the 4-0 final with a power play marker midway through the third.

This Thursday, the Bearcats travel to New Glasgow for a 7 p.m. contest with the Pictou County Weeks Crushers.

Truro closes out the regular season with a pair of weekend home games. Friday, they entertain the Ramblers and Saturday, the Mariners are in town.

Both games start at 7 p.m.
