’Cats crowned provincial champs
Truro midget AA team also nets sportsmanship award
The Truro Bearcats won their final three games, including a 4-0 triumph over host Antigonish in the gold-medal tilt, to capture the Nova Scotia midget AA hockey title last weekend.
The Bearcats opened the tournament with a 2-2 tie against the Bulldogs, before a 4-3 overtime loss to TASA. Truro then blanked Halifax 5-0 and outscored Cape Breton County 8-5, before taking the bite out of the Bulldogs in the final.
Blake Terry scored two goals for the winners in the championship game, while Riley Masters and Evan Mcnea fired single markers. Assists went to Sam Roy, with two, Liam Atwater, Thomas Terfry, and Masters.
Against Cape Breton, Terry netted a hat trick, while Randy Milliea and Atwater each sniped a pair. Brandon Macleod pumped home a single, while assists went to Milliea, Roy and Avery Harrison, with two each, Terry and Jake Hiscock.
Blake, Mcnea and Masters were the marksmen against TASA. Scoresheets were not available for preliminary games against Antig-
onish and Halifax.
The Bearcats also earned individual hardware, as Terry was named the tournament’s top for-
ward and leading scorer.
Mitchell Cummer was selected top goaltender and was the winner of the skills competition.
Cummer also posted the shutout against Halifax. The Bearcats were also the recipient of the sportsmanship award.
