River John road makes top-10 worst list

-

A River John Road has cracked the dubious list known as the ‘Top Ten Worst Roads in Atlantic Canada.’

The Louisville Road in the Pictou County community came in at No. 10.

It was one of three roads in Nova Scotia to make the list. In Cape Breton, it was the Orangedale-iona Road that came in at No. 6 overall, while the Mabou Mines Road was listed at No. 9 in the annual survey compiled by Canadian Automobile Association Atlantic.

This year’s worst road in Atlantic Canada, according to voters, was New Brunswick 616 in Keswick Ridge, followed by Pine Glen Road, which is also in New Brunswick.

“The worst roads campaign allows the public to identify the roads in their area that are in par- ticularly rough shape or present dangerous driving conditions,” said Gary Howard, vice president of communications at CAA Atlantic, in a press release.

“Ongoing road maintenance is essential to ensure that we can all enjoy safe, economical, environmentally responsible and pleasant driving conditions.”

Howard said that CAA Atlantic will now notify government officials for each of the top roads on their top ten list and ‘welcome the opportunity’ to share information on planned repairs or upgrades.

All available information for each road is made available to CAA members and the public on the worst roads website, that is updated year-round.

The worst roads survey is conducted each year and covers roads in Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward. This year, 4,500 votes were registered.
