Improvements begin at 4-H barn

The woman are co-chairs of the renovation project for the 4-H barn, which is located on the NSPE grounds, and work on the project began with a new drainage system.

“ ings are moving right along,” said Patton. “ is work is all inkind. We’ve had a lot of support from the local community.

“We have a great crew of people who are willing to lend a hand, and this is going to be a fun process.”

e new drainage system will prevent water from entering the barn and keep the outdoor ring from filling with large puddles. More ll will be added to the ring, and it will be enclosed with new posts and rails. e barn will receive a new roof and siding, as well as new doors, with a man door on each side. Electrical upgrades will

be done, and it is hoped a washroom can be added. e building will be expanded by 15 feet on each side to provide space for washing and clipping livestock and for some outdoor pens.

“ ere’s a lot to be done, but it’s structurally sound,” said Patton. “ is has been a year in the planning now, and we’ve finally got everything lined up.”

Sponsor packages are available, and businesses that donate will be able to add their banners to the sponsor wall in the barn.

The first event of the season scheduled to be held in the barn is the Truro-north River club’s achievement day, which takes place June 24.
