Double feature highlights Fast Friday

Four divisions of the Turner Memorial for three-year-old colts and llies headline Friday evening’s 13-dash card at Truro Raceway.

Also on the card are the Nova Scotia Stake races (non-wagering) for two- and three-year-old trotters. e non-wagering divisions of the Nova Scotia Stake are slated to be contested following quali ers. Post-time is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday. Quali ers race beginning at 5:45 p.m.

Turner Memorial Stake Truro Raceway’s popular latesummer stake engagement, the Donnie & George Turner Memorial for three-year-old pacing colts and llies, will take centre stage Friday evening.

e late Carl Mackenzie, for- mer general manager and race secretary, was largely responsibl­e for the initiation of this stake to recognize the late Donnie Turner, which was subsequent­ly renamed to acknowledg­e and remember both Donnie and his brother, George Turner.

e brothers were avid horsemen and an active part of the formative days of the Bible Hill facility as executive o cers of the Jollity Horsemen’s Club formed in 1949.

Tomorrow, the raceway is pleased to welcome the families and friends of both of these renowned grassroots horsemen.

Nova Scotia Stake

Developed by the Nova Scotia Harness Racing Industry Associatio­n, the N.S. Stake Series fosters and promotes the breeding, owning and campaignin­g of standardbr­eds in our province.

A change was implemente­d in the 2015 stake conditions by HRNS, allowing yearlings foaled in provinces other than Nova Scotia but owned 100 per cent by Nova Scotia owners to be eligible to be nominated to the stake.

Regulars from Truro Raceway shipping into the Port City track include Clayton Stevens, Dawn Ellis Abbott, Nick White and Donnie Ellis.
