ere will be a treasure trove of tools at the Farm Equipment Museum on Saturday.

The Atlantic Tool Collectors are gathering for their annual autumn show and sale, and the public is invited to drop by and see some of the unusual gadgets.

Page Baird has been collecting tools, and other items, for about 50 years.

“I always thought, ‘Some day those won’t be around,’” he said. “My wife and I both collected small, inexpensive things. She cherished the collections as much as I did.”

Many of the items Baird collected are now in the museum so others can enjoy them, but he still adds to his own collection when he comes across things that capture his imagination.

“The interesting part is finding out what some of the unusual things were used for,” he said. “It sometimes takes a long time.”

Members of the Atlantic Tool Collectors can be found across Canada, but most of those who attend the show are from the Maritimes. One man, in his 90s, comes from Dorchester, N. B., with a large collection.

Mechanical, carpentry, leatherwork, and machinists’ tools will all be included in the event.

“People don’t have to be collectors,” said Baird. “We hope some people will just come to see things, and take in the museum while they’re here.

“If anyone has things they want to have identified, they can bring them along.”

The show and sale will take place at the Farm Equipment Museum, on the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition grounds, in Bible Hill. It is open to the public from noon to 3 p.m., and admission is free.
