Local Chamber executive director recognized on national stage
The executive director of the Truro & Colchester Chamber of Commerce has received national recognition for her efforts supporting member initiatives.
Sherry Martell was recently named Executive of the Year 2018 at the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada (CCEC) conference in under Bay, Ont. e annual general meeting was attended by more than 100 chamber executives.
“It is a true honour and privilege to receive this award on behalf of our chamber,” Martell said. “ e work we do to support business is foundational in strengthening our community as a whole. I share this award with our Chamber team – my incredibly dedicated, professional sta , directors past and present and our more than 400 members whose passion for their community inspires me.”
Martell was presented with the national honour for chambers with less than 500 members. She was also among an “elite group” of 30 Chamber professionals from across the country to be recognized as an Accredited Chamber Executive during the conference. It is the rst time this designation was awarded by the organization to qualifying sta across Canada.
“We are very proud of Sherry’s accomplishment to not only become one of the rst accredited chamber professionals across the country, but also to accept the award for Chamber Executive of the Year,” said local chamber president Joanne Mcrae.
“Sherry has been an integral part of the Chamber team since she rst joined us three years ago and continues to work with sta and the board to ensure we are addressing items that are important to our members.”
In addition to receiving her awards, Martell presented a chamber resolution called Addressing Entrepreneur and Employee Mental Health, which seeks to generate federal action to support business. More than 300 chamber representatives present at the debate supported the policy recommendations which will now be sent to the federal government for consideration.
e Truro & Colchester chamber also co-sponsored a second resolution: Protect Vital Trade Infrastructure on the Isthmus of Chignecto, presented by the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce which received support from the national chambers.
“ ese types of national policies are important to address issues that a ect businesses, not only in our region but across the country,” Martell said. “ ese types of policies are the reason that chambers were formed, to protect the best interest of business.”
