CEC boys strike gold, again

The CEC boys volleyball team won the annual Dalhousie University high school tournament, narrowly defeating Par-en-bas in the final 25-22, 25-23.

The Cougars went undefeated in the round-robin with straight-set wins over Citadel Phoenix (25-14, 25-5) and Horton Griffins (25-11, 25-16). CEC’S playoff run included a quarterfin­al win over Dartmouth Spartans (25-16,25-14) and a semifinal win over Auburn Drive Eagles (25-11, 25-16).

It was the third straight tournament win to start the season for the Cougars.

Leading the way for Cobequid was Thomas Vickers (81 per cent passing, 15 defensive digs, and 34 kills), libero Isaac Macnaughto­n (70 per cent passing), David Sandeson (57 per cent offensive serving, 40 per cent kills), Aiden Fitzpatric­k (55 per cent offensive serving), Adam Mceachren (nine unassisted service points, 11 kills, seven block points), Austin Atkinson (10 digs) and Sean Gallie (68 per cent passing, 20 digs, 6.5 block points).

Additional contributi­ons came from Nick White (6.0 dig-to-error ratio) and Noah Boudreau (54 per cent offensive serving, five block points). Setters Austin Atkinson, Aiden Fitzpatric­k and Nick White shared 81 assists.

Atkinson was a tournament all- star and Vickers was the tournament MVP.

Next up for the Cougars, Team Orange and Team Blue will be in Charlottet­own for the annual Wall of Fame Cup tournament this weekend.
