The trip from New Brunswick seems shorter when you have wins on your back.

The Bearcats earned a pair of them last weekend – one in a shootout, the other in OT.

In Campbellto­n Friday two evenly matched teams went deep into the shootout before the Bearcats picked up the 1-0 win against the Tigers.

The goaltendin­g at both ends was stellar, each deserving a shutout on their record. It took the skills competitio­n to determine the victor in this one.

Saturday in Miramichi, the Bearcats overcame a two-goal deficit to force an extra frame, then won in OT to the tune of 4-3. It helps when your goalie slams the door on the opponents’ shooters in the nal regulation period.

Road teams tend to keep things simple and on script; they tend to business, then nd a way to win. The Bearcats obviously did all the right things.

Truro’s power play picked up one goal over the weekend, giving the club a 15.2 percent efficiency mark. at places the team middle of the pack in the Maritime Junior Hockey League, with a concern being addressed weekly.

The team’s penalty kill at 90.6-per-cent efficiency is tops in the league. at stat speaks volumes to the team’s success and standing.

Coming into this week, the Bearcats continue to share second spot with Amherst Ramblers in the Eastlink South Division, three points behind Yarmouth. e Bearcats have no complaints.

is weekend the Bearcats are at the RECC Saturday to face the Pictou County Weeks Crushers at 7 p.m., then travel to Berwick to play the Valley Wildcats on Sunday at 2 p.m.

e Bearcats have picked up points in the last nine games, opening up separation over teams below them, including the Crushers and Wildcats.

While the Bearcats’ goal is to continue building on that, these opponents are hungry in e orts to move up. ey will bring their best.

e Crushers have struggled, coming into this week with just two wins. at team is better than that.

e Wildcats, with three wins, made a statement last week beating the Amherst Ramblers.

To move up the standings, you have to beat those ahead of you – the Bearcats are their target.

Don’t expect the Truro Bearcats to go along with that.
