Casting call for Truro Theatre Society’s Guys and Dolls

People are invited to join Lenore Zann in a production of the show that launched her acting career.

Zann is joining Ross Thompson to produce Guys & Dolls in 2019, and auditions are being held Jan. 2 and 4.

“When Ross Thompson came forward with the idea I jumped at it,” said Zann. “It was the first musical I did. When I was at CEC, and 15 years old, I played Adelaide.

“When Norman Hines announced he was going to be doing Guys & Dolls, I didn’t know the show, but I’d seen Oliver the year before and loved it. I’d already decided that when I was in Grade 10 I would audition for the musical, even though I’d never been in a musical, or a choir, or acted, before.”

When she told her parents she was going to audition, they worried that she would be disappointed.

“They thought the older girls were likely to get the parts, but I thought I had just as much chance as anybody,” said Zann. “Something inside me told me I had something to offer the world that nobody knew about.

“We were living in Belmont at that time, and I’d been singing to the cows in the area when I went for walks. They would come around me and listen.”

Taking part in the show led her to make major decisions about her future.

“It showed me that was what I wanted to do when I left school. For me, that show stands for the fact that you can have a dream and make it come true. For anyone who wants to show their talent, this is their opportunity.”

One of the reasons the show was chosen was because it includes many parts for both males and females. It will be presented by the Truro Theatre Society is and directed by Emma Smit-geraghty. Ross Thompson will be the musical director. Auditions will take place Wed., Jan 2, 5:30 to 9 p.m. at First United Church Hall. People are asked to prepare a song and a short monologue of one to two minutes. It does not have to be something from Guys & Dolls. To book an audition, email rossthompson65@ gmail.com

Callbacks will be held on Jan. 4 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Performances will take place at the church July 5, 6 and 7. Anyone interested in helping behind the scenes is also encouraged to email Thompson.
