-

Curtis He ernan Hometown: St. John’s, NL Age: 19 Number: 5 Position: Defence H-W: 6-1, 185 lbs.

Curtis Heffernan is this week’s Bearcat of the Week.

As one of two second-year defenceman, his leadership responsibilities are focused on the defensive zone coverage. Last week he displayed his o ensive upside, scoring a goal and two assists in the losing e ort to Pictou County, then followed up Saturday with some impressive rushes in the 3-1 win over Valley. He brought an o ensive air to the Bearcats from the midget level and it appears his con dence level is kicking in. It’s coming at a good time.

Curtis got his hockey start in the St. John’s minor program up through to the midget level with the St. John’s Maple Leafs. He spent three years with that club, winning a provincial title each season. His last year, he picked up 24 points but added nine goals and eight assists in 10 playo games. He was the NMMHL’S top scorer in the playo s and earned playo MVP honours. The third-round pick by the Bearcats in 2016 had a strong rookie year and was named to the rookie all-star team. He wears a letter this year and takes that responsibility seriously.
