Chamber applauds investment in infrastructure
The president of the Truro and Colchester Chamber of Commerce says infrastructure investment announced recently will benefit business in the Colchester region.
The province has earmarked $300 million in capital spending for 2019-20 for roads, highways and bridges.
“Truro and surrounding area has long been recognized as the ‘Hub of Nova Scotia’,” said Joanne Mcrae, president of the chamber. “Many goods and people travelling to other areas of this province pass through our region. The safe efficient movement of these goods and people is a vital part of the economic wellbeing of the Colchester region and has been for many years.”
This is the largest investment in Nova Scotia’s infrastructure in eight years and one of the largest in the province’s history, with much of the funding focused on twinning portions of Highway 101, 103, 104 and 107.
More than 13 km of repaving will be done on Trunk 2, in Colchester County, in 201920, if the budget is approved, along with maintenance paving in East Montrose Road and Station Road and gravelling on some roads.
According to the department’s five-year plan, in 2020-21 two bridges will also be replaced, Barnhill Bridge and Lower Debert River Bridge.
