Andrew Boudreau was about 12 years old when he rst performed at First United Church. is month, the talented jazz musician, who now lives in Brooklyn, New York, is returning to Truro to perform in a fundraising concert for the church.

“One of my rst gigs was at First United Church, accompanying the Douglas Street School choir,” he recalled. “I was pretty nervous at the time, but I’ve always been an optimistic performer, so I was excited as well.”

Boudreau is now an awardwinning musician who has performed across North America and at some events in Europe, in both solo shows and as part of an ensemble.

His Truro show, part of the Music Under the Steeple series, will include both his own compositions and pieces from jazz standards.

“The thing that excites me most is the collaborative aspect of music,” he said. “I love performing in an ensemble, but this concert is a solo concert, so the collaboration is between me and the audience. ere’s also collaboration between the musician and the composer.”

He said he enjoys returning to Truro to see family and friends, so combining visiting with performing was ideal.

“When the opportunity to come back to Truro and perform presented itself, I jumped at it. One

thing that’s really exciting for me is to play at home. It’s nice to share music with people I haven’t seen in a while, and with the place that raised me musically.

“It’s also a wonderful way to showcase their wonderful piano.”

e show will take place Sunday, Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available at the First United Church of ce and are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and $5 for students. For more information, call 902-8958098.
