Millbrook man charged with firearms offences
A Millbrook man has been charged with numerous offences after police received a complaint about another man being threatened with a firearm.
Matthew Alexander Cope, 32, is to return to court in Digby on Feb. 19 after making a brief appearance this week.
Cope is facing charges of uttering threats, careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, careless storage of a firearm, two counts of careless storage of ammunition, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.
Cope, who is believed to have been living temporarily in Digby, was arrested Nov. 19 when members of the RCMP responded to a complaint that a man had been threatened by another man with a firearm. The complainant told police he went to a convenience store on Water Street and noticed two people across the street from him.
Following a verbal exchange between the two males, the suspect allegedly confronted the victim with a long gun. An RCMP report said the complainant then quickly got back into his vehicle and drove to the Digby detachment to report the incident.
Cope was located and arrested without incident a short time later and was taken into custody.
The police said a search warrant was obtained for the suspect’s apartment and a long gun and ammunition were located.
