Truro talent excels at Atlantic tournament

The Cougar Dome saw great success from its high performanc­e players at a recent Atlantic Tennis Alliance tournament in Fredericto­n.

e tournament is one of the premier junior events in Atlantic Canada, featuring players 18 and younger from all over the region.

e brother-sister duo of Cayden and Joni Colburne fared well, with Joni reaching the quarter nals in under-10, and Cayden capturing the title with a decisive 4-0, 4-2 win over Elijah Opps. Truro dominated the under-12 girls’ category, with both nalists being Cougar Dome athletes. Meghna Anand defeated So a Gonzalez, who upset No. 2 seed Paige Ramsay in the semis.

In under-14 action, Zach Verboom caused a major upset when he posted a strong 6-2, 6-0 victory over second-ranked Gabriel Lacroix in the quarter nals, before su ering a hard fought defeat to fourth-seed Anthony Shaw in the semi nals. In the most senior category, Truro’s Clarke Fullerton came away with the trophy with a 2-6, 7-5, 14-12 victory over Luke Conlon, a year after being the run- ner up.

This tournament represente­d an extremely strong showing for what has become one of the premier tennis facilities and programs in Atlantic Canada.
