Look for that inner hero

Jax Gaudet encourages others to search for that ‘superpower’

TRURO, N.S. — Jax Gaudet’s story has now been published in Awaken Your Inner Hero and he’s challenging young people in Colchester County to discover their own superpower.

Jax recently spoke to the Truro 100 Kids Who Care group and encouraged them to write their own story for possible inclusion in the next volume of the book.

“Ask yourself what your superpower is,” he told them. “What are you really good at and does it make a difference in someone else’s life?”

Jax joined his mother in raising money for the Children’s Wish Foundation when he was six years old. With lemonade stands, he brought in $1,000.

He was later diagnosed with dysautonomia, an incurable condition where the system that controls automatic functions of the body, such as heart rate and digestion, malfunctions. His body sometimes doesn’t control temperature properly and he can easily become dizzy and sick. He’s had many tests and surgeries and takes medication daily.

In 2016, at the age of 11, the boy with a keen interest in the world wars became a Wish Child and went to Hawaii to see the Pearl Har- bour Memorial and swim with dolphins. He continued to raise funds to help grant other wishes and has now brought in about $20,000.

“All the money goes to granting kids’ wishes,” he said. “I plan to keep doing things to help. It feels so good to give back.”

Jax also enjoys sports.

“I love being a goalie in hockey even though the motion makes me feel sick,” he said.

Jax’s chapter in Awaken Your Inner Hero is called “I am a Genie,” because of his efforts to help grant wishes.

He encourages other children to find their inner hero and write about it now. He will help choose the top five stories, which will then be submitted to those making the final decisions on what will be included in Awaken Your Inner Hero Volume 2.

“You don’t need to have money to help; kindness is free,” added Jax.

In late 2017, Jax helped UPS deliver a wish to a child with cancer. A load of pool toys was delivered to a boy who would be getting a pool once the warm weather arrived.
